Amorphous silicon solar panels, which are usually smaller than crystal modules, have a uniform surface and are dark green, brown or black. Amorphous silicon solar panels are composed of amorphous solar cells. They are characterized by relatively simple production process, light weight and flexible use. However, compared with single crystal, polycrystalline and SunPower solar panels on the market, their efficiency is the lowest. Therefore, they are not as powerful as crystalline silicon solar panels, and they are much cheaper. They can be used under diffuse or weak light conditions and are insensitive to heat (temperature). Thin film solar panels have typical strong initial degradation.
Monocrystalline silicon amorphous silicon solar panel
Amorphous silicon solar panels due to its simple manufacturing process and low resource costs. Amorphous silicon solar modules are much cheaper than crystalline silicon solar, but their efficiency is also much lower. The efficiency is about 6% – 10%, which means that solar panels with the same performance need a large area of amorphous silicon solar modules, which need to be used in large open spaces.
Although amorphous silicon solar panels respond to temperature changes, they are not as strong as crystalline silicon modules. They can also generate constant power generation at relatively high temperatures. They are not very sensitive to lighting conditions, and even some can generate power indoors. For example, those in calculators can also produce the same performance under diffuse lighting conditions, which is suitable for South Africa.
Compared with crystalline solar charging panels, amorphous silicon solar panels have less power, shorter service life and are more vulnerable to environmental impact.
